Feeding The Family

Spaghetti Bolognese :

Serves - 4-6
Prep time -15 minutes
Cooking Time - 90 minutes
Approx Cost - £4.50

Ingredients

500g minced beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
180g carrots, finely diced
2 sticks celery, finely diced
1 clove garlic, finely crushed
2 x 400g tins chopped tomatoes
Large squirt tomato puree
2 beef stock cubes made up with 150ml boiling water
150ml water (or you could use red wine instead)
400g dried pasta spaghetti



Method

  • Heat the oil in a medium sized saucepan over a moderate heat and brown the minced beef
  • Add the garlic, onion, carrots and celery, and cook until the vegetables are softened, but not browned. (about 15 minutes).
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, puree, beef stock, water or red wine and stir until the ingredients are mixed well.
  • Reduce the heat and cook until the carrots and celery are soft to the bite which should take about 60 - 90 minutes.
  • From time to time stir all the ingredients.
  • Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packet. Drain and serve with the bolognese sauce.
