Ok my husband and I are at either the end of our marriage or we have to make vital life change....we chose the vital life change. He works away from home weeks at a time and whilst his job pays well we are inundated with debt which is why he is having to keep doing the job. Basically we have decided to sell the house (difficult area to sell) pay of the mortgage and hopefully our secured loan with first plus if we have enough and rent instead enabling him to get a normal 9 - 5 job and hopefully rebuild our marriage.

We thought of bankruptsy however not sure if this would cover the secured debt or not.

I arent sure which way round to do it...do we declare bankrupsy and them them sort out thehouse debt and secured debt, or do we try and sellit ourselves and pay them off independantly?

If we do it this way and then go for bankrupsy will the selling of the house go against us in anyway? and will it be frowned upon that he gave up a well paid job to enable us to save the marriage?

We are currently with payplan for our unsecured debt and most creditors have stopped interest although not all of them. We currently have around 30,000 in unsecured debt and with payplan it will take roughly 14 years to pay off.

ANy advice would be appreciated. Many thanks x

Hello moneybunny,

It sounds as though you are clear what is most important to you both.

Do you expect that the sale price of your home would be less than the amount currently owed in total for the mortgage and secured loan?
