I have just heard on the news that both Woolworths and MFI have called in the Administrators placing thousands of jobs at risk.

What a shame in terms of the loss of another high street name (potentially) and also for the people who are now facing uncertainty in terms of their jobs.

I lived and worked through the last recession and cannot recall it every getting as bad as this time around. Perhaps I was less aware back in the late 80's as it just seemed to pass me by.

I have visited Woolworths on many occasions over the years in particular when my son was young and I regularly bought the LAdybird brand of clothing. I am also partial to their pic n mix when I am in the vicinity of one of their stores!

Let us hope that the Insolvency Practitioners appointed to deal with the situations find a buyer and therefore secure many, if not all, of the jobs and also another of our famous high street names.

It has been said that there are 25,000 jobs in jeopardy in Woolies, so that alone is a fightening statistic. Lets hope the administrators can find a purchaser for the business as it would be a real shame to see them disappear off the High Street - they have been around since 1915. As a single mum, I love Woolies - the Ladybird range of childrens clothing is really good value and I get most of my Kiddiewinks Christmas presents in October when they run all the 'buy one get one half price' promos!

Panic over for me !!!!the radio news bulliton has just announced that Woolies will stay open at least until after Christmas....big sigh of relief for someone like me who does not like chocolate, I adore their pick and mix, so I can binge on sweeties whilst everyone else is tucking into chocolate! I don't know where i would be without my large bag of sweeties - my christmas treat to myself and no I don't share! everyone else can eat chocolate, of which there is always loads hanging around during the festive season, I hate the stuff, unless it comes in a mug with hot milk (or cake)

A woman who doesn't like chocolate - you are definately a one off. I love the stuff, but unfortuntately so do my hips, which is why it hangs around for so long I expect.

Not only does Sue Clay enjoy Woolie's Pic and Mix - she has personally devoured a large box of Thorntons left from me at the office by a thankful client! And worse still - took some from the bottom layer before the top had been finished!!!

On a serious note, it is very sad to see high street brands such as these facing Administration. I predicted the demise of Woolworths some time ago - as it seemed to have run out of steam, in a marketplace more and more reliant upon the internet for consumer spending. And MFT are a sad victim of the credit crunch, where consumer confidence in splashing out on home improvements is at an all time low. I fear that we will see more insolvencies or mergers in the retail sector over the next couple of months.

I've just seen this post - what's wrong with starting on the bottom layer before you finish the top one?!? I do it all the time to make sure I get the best sweets!
