Debt Divas – Meet our Bankruptcy Expert Suzanne Stocker

I have always worked in an accountancy role from leaving school, the first 9 years after leaving college being with a manufacturing company. I then went to university as a mature student and obtained a BA (Hons) in Business and Finance in 1998.

My partner and I moved down to London and I worked for a mergers and acquisitions company for several years before returning to South Wales in 2002. I was then Assistant Financial Controller for a hotel until 2004, after which I spent time doing Audit work for a manufacturing company.

In 2005 I joined the Official Receiver’s office as an examiner for 2 ½ years, where I dealt with interviewing bankrupts regarding their personal insolvency, and company directors regarding their company insolvency, in addition to visiting trading businesses and companies in order to secure the assets. In 2007 I joined Jones Giles as a Bankruptcy Manager where I assist the Trustee in realizing bankruptcy assets, reporting to creditors, the Court and the Official Receiver.

The work I have done has been very varied, and as a result I have gained a wealth of knowledge in several different fields. This has enabled me to bring to my current role experience not only in Insolvency but also in other accounting specialist areas.

I live with my partner of 12 years and our 4 year old son. Like many working mothers who juggle work and home, much of my free time is spent with my son. I suffer the mother’s guilt trip for not being around more, but try to give myself me time by going to the gym for an hour, or meet up with friends in the evening. As a family we try to make weekends a special time, and make a point of at least going swimming every Sunday.

Jones Giles itself is a small company with two Insolvency Practitioners, one of whom works exclusively on company insolvencies. The company is well known and enjoys a good reputation. Most of our work comes from personal recommendations with some additional work coming from the Official Receiver’s Rota. The company also has satellite offices in Sutton Coldfield and Plymouth.
